1. Information We Collect
Moon Phases collects two categories of information. First, location data: when you grant location permission or enter a city manually, your coordinates are used solely to calculate moon phases, moonrise and moonset times, sunrise and sunset, and sky conditions for your area. This data is transmitted to Open-Meteo for weather information and is never stored by us. Second, personal preferences: your time format, theme, distance units, and location choice are stored exclusively on your device using Apple's native storage (UserDefaults). These preferences never leave your device and are not accessible to us.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your location is used for one purpose only: to calculate moon and sun times for your area and to fetch sky condition data (cloud cover, wind, humidity) from Open-Meteo. Your preferences are used entirely on-device to customize the app experience. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose other than providing the core functionality of the app. No subscriptions. No tracking. No account is required for core features.
3. Third-Party Services
Moon Phases uses Open-Meteo to retrieve weather and sky condition data. Your location coordinates are sent to this service to fulfill your request. Open-Meteo operates under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review. All in-app purchases are processed exclusively by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive, store, or have access to any payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs payment data.
4. Data Storage & Retention
We do not operate servers and do not store any personal data on our end. Your location data is never persisted — it is used momentarily to fetch moon, sun, and weather data and then discarded. Your on-device preferences are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app permanently removes all locally stored data. You can also reset your preferences at any time within the app settings.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of Moon Phases after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
